Your identity is not what you achieve, who you marry, what you earn, or how you failed. Your identity is who God says you are in Christ. Until that is settled, everything else you build sits on a shaky foundation.
Identity Before Activity
Most men live the reverse - they try to earn their identity through activity. They believe if they accomplish enough, they will finally be enough. Scripture flips this: you are already accepted in Christ, and your activity flows from that acceptance, not toward it.
Scripture"So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith."
Galatians 3:26
What God Says About You
- You are a child of God - adopted, not hired
- You are forgiven - your past does not define you
- You are loved - not because of performance
- You are a new creation - the old is gone
- You are called - you have a God-given mission
- You are free - from shame, condemnation, and performance
Freedom from Shame and Performance
Shame says you are what you've done wrong. Performance says you are only what you've done right. The gospel says neither. In Christ, you are defined by His finished work, not your record. That frees a man to obey without earning and to fail without collapsing.
The Mission Identity Statement
Kingdom Men on Mission helps each man write a Mission Identity Statement - a clear declaration of who he is in Christ and what he is called to. When identity is clear, decisions get simpler and pressure loses its grip.
How to Anchor Your Identity
- 1List the lies you've believed about yourself
- 2Find the Scripture that counters each lie
- 3Write your Mission Identity Statement
- 4Review it daily before your activity begins
- 5Take the Kingdom Man Assessment to see where you stand
Common Questions
How do I know my identity in Christ?+
Through Scripture. Read what God says about those who are in Christ - passages like Romans 8, Galatians 3–4, Ephesians 1, and 2 Corinthians 5. Believe what He says over what you feel.
What if my past mistakes feel too big?+
In Christ, your past is forgiven and no longer defines you. Repentance and grace are not opposites - they work together. Bring your past to Christ and let Him define your future.
Isn't focusing on identity self-centered?+
Biblical identity is Christ-centered, not self-centered. Knowing who you are in Christ frees you to serve others instead of proving yourself.
